All the women

“It is unthinkable to say The woman because one cannot say all the women, One cannot say all the women because it is only introduced in this myth of Totem and Taboo in the name of this, that the Father possesses all the women, which is clearly a sign of an impossibility.” Lacan, J. Of a discourse that would not be a semblance, Paris Seuil, 2006, p. 106. Untranslated.

The woman who does not exist would be the Lacanian interpretation of the Freudian myth. The jouissance of all the women being impossible for the man as such, the existence of The Woman becomes unthinkable. Jouissance is the cause of the fiction and even of the concept. The sexual impasse thus secretes that which rationalises it. Lacan is complex simplicity.
